Message from our host Jim Smith!

Greetings Everyone,

Happy New Year from Hometown Helena to all of you and all of yours. It’s been a long break, and we’re looking forward to resuming our regular Hometown schedule (2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month) starting this Thursday.  And continuing during 2022.  We are proposing to stick to Zoom meetings this winter.  There is hope however that with the coming of spring we will feel comfortable having Hometowns at the Montana Club once again.  And we will still strive to have Hybrid Hometowns so that people who wish to keep zooming can do so; and people who wish to meet in person can do that.  We see through the glass darkly, but that’s as clear as it is right now.  We’re planning to get an Omnicron/Covid update this week from Katie at SPH.  That will provide the initial guidance to our 2022 Hometown planning.

As always, your feedback is welcome.  It’s been awhile since we asked you for direct feedback, and a lot of virus water has gone under the bridge since the last time we did ask.  Please email Hometown Helena with your opinions, thoughts and suggestions.  I will confess to no small amount of frustration with the current state of affairs.

Meanwhile we have another great program for this week (see below).  The labor situation seems to be another conundrum.  Unemployment is at 2.8% in Montana?  We’ll hear about Helena specific employment and unemployment Thursday.  Looking forward to it.  And yet, I made a brief windshield survey last Saturday morning right around 8 am looking for place to eat breakfast.  Steve’s on 11th was closed.  Ditto for the Last Chance Casino on the Gulch.  Same for the No Sweat and the Hub.  The Grateful Bread on Rodney was open and my buddy and I had a great breakfast sandwich there.  Really good food!  I do not what to make of this anecdotal experience?  Any thoughts?

Looking forward to seeing everyone Thursday morning,

Jim Smith
