Message from our host Jim Smith:

Greetings Everyone,

We’re going to pass the hat this week at Hometown to raise a little money for relief efforts in Carbon county and other places now digging out & rebuilding their communities after the flooding last week.  My understanding is that the community foundations are very involved in coordinating things, so we’re hoping that Emily Frazier, Emily McVey and/or Mary Rutherford will be on hand to give us an update.  Mary Rutherford with the Montana Community Foundation confirmed with Kelly that we can make checks out to MCF with a memo noting "Disaster Recovery Fund" and they'll divvy up the donations among the local community foundations in the affected areas.  Let’s see what we can do to help out our neighbors.

We have another great program lined up for this week (see below) on the FUSE Project currently underway.  FUSE stands for ‘frequent users of systems engagement.’   We’ll be joined by Jeff Buscher and Emily McVey, United Way of L&C Area, Kayla Morris, St. Peter’s Hospital, Michael O’Neil, Helena Housing Authority, and James Petrovich, Carroll College.

We’ve got a special Hometown on July 7th.  Mr. Neil Kashkari, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis is going to be in Helena that week.  He joined Hometown Helena on his last visit here a few years ago, and asked about another visit while he’s in town.  This is an opportunity to meet Mr. Kashkari, a great chance to learn more about the federal reserve banking system and the state of the US economy.  Mr. Kashkari wants to keep his visit informal, he’s open to questions and discussion, and he would like to hear about our concerns here in Helena.  Please mark the date and plan to attend this special Hometown.

Meanwhile, your Hometown planning team has been busy lining up guests and topics for the rest of the summer and fall.  Posted below is what we’ve got lined up so far.  And there will be any number of other things going on as well, including: the Last Chance Stampede, Symphony Under the Stars, November elections, 2023 Legislative Session, Hunting Season, School Starting, Antique Car Show, the Nutcracker, etc.  We’ll work these upcoming events into our Hometowns as best we can.

Look forward to seeing you this Thursday in person or via Zoom!

Here’s the tentative Hometown Helena schedule right now lower in the email.   We’re still reaching out to these people and organizations, so please regard this as ’tentative.’  But this will give you a good idea of what we are working on for your Thursday mornings.
