Greetings Everyone,
The Montana Club is a very special place, rather like Yellowstone National Park or Disneyland. Especially for Helena folks. I’ll bet most of us can remember the fist time we went to the Montana Club.
I suspect that we all have precious memories of elegant evenings, or of certain special events at the Club. While I was at Carroll College a few of us who worked in the cafeteria would be recruited from time to time to help out at the Montana Club. We waited tables, poured wine, cleaned up and did the dishes. As I recall, our favorite event was the Seafood Buffet. Over the years, any group I happened to be working with would ask if they could hold one of their meetings at the Club. And the folks at the Club always were always great to work with. Whatever we were talking about took on increased gravity and importance simply by being there, where so much Montana history was made. More recently, about twenty years ago, I recall fondly the dinner the Helena Symphony Board of Directors hosted in order to welcome Maestro Allan R. Scott to Helena. I do not remember everyone who was there, but Dr. Bill and Helen Ballinger were on the board at the time, and they were so proud and happy that evening. Allan Scott had just been hired as Executive Director of the Helena Symphony. That has worked out very, very well for Helena. The Symphony is doing better than ever under Maestro Scott’s direction. We gave him a box of Parrot candy that night at the Montana Club as a 'welcome to Helena' present. I like to think that evening sealed the deal between Maestro Scott and Helena.
This week at Hometown Helena we are going to talk at length and in depth about the Montana Club. Charlene Porsild, PhD is the President and CEO of the Montana History Foundation. Ms. Porsild is going to take us on a tour through time, and the human history of the Montana Club. This is a Hometown you don’t want to miss. I’m hoping there will be time for people to share one of their favorite Montana Club stories with the group.
Thanks to everyone who has helped out with the Christmas present for John Leaf. We’ll accept your generous gifts this week and will make the presentation to John on December 15th.
Speaking of, we have a special holiday program lined up for December 15th. It’s kind of a surprise. You’ll want to be there!
In other news, Wes Feist, from the East Helena City Council asked that we extend the invitation below to Hometown Helena. As you know there’s lots going on in East Helena, and the ongoing environmental cleanup is at the heart of it all. Please feel free to attend in person or via zoom. Thanks Wes!!
Please plan to join us in person or via the Zoom this Thursday morning.
