Hometown Helena this Thursday, March 14th: Regional Sports Complex Update | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
March 12, 2024 Greetings Everyone, We ’sprung ahead’ last week, and now it’s dark again at 7am. But that is changing and in another few weeks we’ll have sunlight streaming through the skylights at Helena College for our weekly meetings. Daylight Savings is another one of those human inventions, like Leap Year, that deals with ’Time.’ I mentioned a few weeks back that it was St. Augustine who said something like: ‘everyone knows what time is--until you ask them.’ That may not be an exact quote, but it’s close. This week we have Heather Grahame, who is working on the Regional Sports Complex is joining Hometown Helena to give us an update on progress to date. This effort has been underway for quite some time. It is an ambitious undertaking, with a hefty price tag and many variables to take into consideration during the planning phase of the project. Upon its completion the Regional Sports Complex will be a great asset to this community and especially its youth. Hopefully, the swimming pool is still in the master plan; along with basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. We’ll hear all about it Thursday morning. In other news, the filing deadline for legislative and statewide offices was yesterday at 5pm. It looks like a nearly full slate of candidates for nearly every House District (100 Rs and 86 Ds had filed by last night). The Senate has 25 seats up for election in 2024. Rs have filed in all 25, while Ds have filed in 21 of them. The statewide races are also in play, and there are several candidates running for most of the statewide offices. It’s a long stretch between now and November, and then a short stretch between November and the 69th Montana Legislative Assembly that begins January 6, 2025. The people running for office have their work cut out for them. They’ll be trying hard to tell you who they are and what they believe and how they intend to serve you if they get elected. They want to earn your vote. Please learn all you can about these folks, study the party platforms, read the literature as it appears on your doorstep. Speaking of doorsteps, the candidates will also be going door to door for the next several months. Please be gracious when one of them knocks on your door. And remember to thank them for being willing to seek elective office, and being willing to lead and serve the people of Montana in that capacity. Meanwhile, here’s what we have lined up for Hometown Helena the next month so. Some of these guests and presentations are still ’tentative.’ Please keep checking these weekly emails for the latest information on the upcoming programs. March 21
