Hey Y’all,
We have another interesting Hometown Helena planned for this week. Sometimes we lose track of people we’ve heard from previously. We’re going to catch up with a couple of our friends from Hometowns past this week.
Valerie Hellerman, from Hands on Global Initiative will be with us to discuss refugee families who have arrived in Helena recently. We’ll get a sense of how these families are doing in town, what needs they may have and how the community can help out.
Also, Carolyn Belling and the team from Hope Center Ministries will join us this week. You’ll recall that they provide a women's recovery center in Clancy for women overcoming addiction to build themselves back up, overcome challenges, and find a job and stability in the community.
It will be great to reconnect with Valerie and Carolyn.
The next few weeks will be busy ones, as the 2024 election season is at hand. Hometown Helena has arranged for local candidate introductions on September 26th and October 3rd. Next week we’ll let you know the exact schedule, but we’ll have a mix of House and Senate candidates both weeks. Hope you can join us and meet these folks.
And, on October 7, from 5:30 to 6:30pm. the LWV and the Lewis and Clark Library are co-sponsoring “Do You know What You Are Voting For?” The program will be at the library in the large meeting room. This is a hybrid meeting both on zoom and in person. Sign up for the zoom meeting will be on the library website. The program will explore the implications of CI-126, (open primary system), CI-127 (winner of general election receive a majority of the votes), CI-128 (a discussion of 128 and why it is on the ballot).
We owe it to ourselves to learn as much as we can about the upcoming election. Many thanks to Peter Strauss for arranging the Hometown candidate introductions, and to the Helena Area LWV, the Helena Avenue Theater and the Lewis and Clark Library for sponsoring these important events.
