Montana Youth Challenge Academy and Community Updates

Today's Hometown Helena had great community discussion and updates in addition to our featured presentation by Mark McKinley, Lead Admission's Counselor of Montana Youth Challenge Academy who served for 30 years in the Montana National Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. The recording and chat from today's program follow. Hometown also honored WWII Veteran and Race to the Sky founder David Armstrong with a moment of silence led by Major General (Ret.) Gene Prendergast. Today's Helena Independent Record features more about David Armstrong's amazing 100 years.

April 21 at 6pm (Zoom info to be coming) for a virtual Q & A session with Damon
Tweedy, MD about the book he authored, “Black Man in a White Coat: A Doctor’s
Reflection on Race and Medicine.” The Lewis and Clark Library has many copies of this
book available to check out, so head down there and ask at the service desk to check
out a copy. As we read the book, please join the YWCA Helena Facebook discussion
group, which will be led by members of the Carroll College faculty. Questions? Contact
Ann Waickman at ann.waickman(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks!

Peter Strauss: Speaking of recycling - - we are opening up the Adirondack Chair
shop again and we need your old skis. Please contact me at petetheskier@gmail.com
and I'll be happy to pick up your old skis that are gathering dust in your garage, attic or
barn. Thanks!

Matthew A. Elsaesser: Food Waste and Compost collection with 406 Recycling is at
406Compost.com all food waste, including meats and composting dishware collected
from households and businesses!

Alana Listoe: Montana Youth Challenge is a GREAT program and the kids come out
super successful. Point of note, if I may, Shodair is also a school with accreditation and
teachers all carry special education endorsements, and operates year around :)

Mark McGinley: Mark McGinley: 406-865-0119  mark.mcginley(at)mycacademy(dot)org

Peter Strauss: MYC is a GREAT program - we see it like Big Brothers Big Sisters
on steroids. We KNOW mentorship works - if you need statistics on how much just
being a friend to a young adult means to their success - contact BBBS.

rhondasafford: Thanks Mark - such a wonderful program! We have had some of
our foster youth at Reach Higher Montana finish this program and go on to be
successful.

Katie Gallagher: Katie from St. Peter’s- I would be remiss to not mention covid-19
vaccination. Many opportunities available in our community, including at awesome
fairgrounds site, St. Peter’s primary care clinic site, many pharmacies, etc. Here's the
great info and registration links, too!
