• Higher Education Updates with Dr. Sandy Bauman, Dean of Helena College, and Dr. John Cech, President of Carroll College 

• September is Suicide Prevention Month. Caroline Patterson, AmeriCorps VISTA with Lewis and Clark Public Health, will discuss suicide prevention efforts in Lewis and Clark County and Safer Communities Montana.

Greetings Everyone,

Our Hometown planning committee met via conference call August 24th, just as news of the Covid resurgence, delta variant, increased case counts and hospitalizations, etc. were hitting the streets. It was sobering and discouraging news to us, you may be sure.  But, given the news we have decided to hold off on in-person meetings for the time being.  So, the September 23rd Hometown will be a Zoom Meeting.  

 

We are hearing from a lot of folks who really like the Zoom format: folks with young children, long commutes, complicated schedules.  We know that there are other folks who really look forward to getting back together in-person at the Montana Club.  We are still committed to serving the needs of both these groups by transitioning to the Hybrid Hometown we have envisioned for quite some time now.  As soon as it’s safe and simple to do that very thing, we will.  Rest assured.  Please be patient.

 

Meanwhile, we have a great Hometown lined up for this week (see below).  We’re working on other programs for the Fall.  There is a lot going on in Helena. It’s tough to cover the waterfront in an hour every other week, so we tend to zero in on topics that are of contemporary interest, that might appeal to a wide range of people, or that are Helena-centric.  We try to maintain a balance between the business community, government, education and the non-profit sectors.
