Greetings Everyone,

Has spring at long last come to the Northern Rockies? Sure feels like it these last few days. Hope you are enjoying the warmer weather, longer days and ice-free streets and sidewalks. It seems like it was a long winter.

Signs of spring in Helena are everywhere. There’s quite the blue-green display at the old mall site. One of the new buildings is sheathed in a very nice blue type of insulation, while the other one is covered in an equally nice green colored insulation. Kind of a shame they’ll both be covered up soon. See it while you can! The Montana Heritage Center is also coming along, with doors and glass windows installed. Also, some of the exterior stone work is being laid on to the east wall of the building. The city of Helena has recently planted many new trees in the boulevards, including replacement trees on Rodney Street. Not to mention people all over town are out raking leaves, spreading fertilizer, planting flowers and getting gardens ready. And in another sure sign of spring, City crews will be out filling in potholes once the ‘hot plant’ (to heat asphalt) is up and running out at Helena Sand and Gravel. Watch for it!

Meanwhile, we have another great Hometown Helena arranged for this week (see below). I hope you can join us in person join the 6th floor of the Montana Club, or by zooming into the meeting this Thursday.

Any healthy community has ‘anchors’ of one sort or another: economic, educational, cultural, religious. These are organizations or agencies or companies that, by virtue of their long, faithful and meritorious service, become ‘institutions’ in their communities. We will hear from two of these ‘anchors’ this week: The Lewis and Clark Library, and the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA). Both of these outfits have been serving Helena for over 100 years. Library Director John Finn, and YWCA Director Jennifer Gursky will join us to discuss what’s going on at each of these fine institutions.

Please plan to join us Thursday morning. Look forward to seeing you,

Jim Smith
