Hometown Helena this Thursday, May 18th:

Legislative Wrap-Up

May 15, 2023

Greetings Everyone,

We’re getting the weekly message out a day early this week because we want to remind everyone that Hometown Helena received an invitation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to a special tour of the newly completed Helena Temple tomorrow (Tuesday, 5/16) morning from 7-9 am.  The tour will begin with an eight (8) minute video that will be followed by a walk through the Temple.  It will take about 35 minutes. The Temple is located at 1226 Otter Road in the near valley. Please come out and enjoy this opportunity to see the Temple. Lee Holmes, a Hometown Helena regular, and others from the congregation will be on hand to welcome and guide us. Look forward to seeing you there.

And, we have our post session, legislative wrap up scheduled for this Thursday (5/18). Peter Strauss has been coordinating this for Hometown Helena. We have received affirmative replies from four of our local legislators so far. We ought to have time for some Q&A with our legislators.  And time for introductions, announcements, etc. too.

It was quite a busy weekend in Helena. The Art Walk Friday evening was well attended. The Gulch was jumping. The Don’t Fence Me In Trail Run drew over 1000 runners to town for the event.  Plus the Carroll College graduation. It looks as though another wonderful summer in Helena is off to a great start.

Here’s an email Peter sent to our legislators outlining what we’d like them to discuss with us Thursday morning…

"We would appreciate you speaking more specifically about your areas of interest and expertise as part of the legislative process. All of us can discuss the positives, and negatives, of the democratic process. I am a personal fan of Winston Churchill’s quote, ‘No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government, except all those others that have been tried from time to time.’

We would like to ask you to share your perspectives based on your personal knowledge, either gained through your professional or personal life experience, and the issues brought through your committee assignments. Of course, to the extent you can highlight how that benefited Helena, that’s a bonus. The good news is that the HomeTown Helena crowd already knows you and is typically active in our community.

HomeTown Helena also prides itself on being non-political. We can disagree without being disagreeable.”

Looking forward to seeing you then, in person on the 6th floor of the Montana Club, or via the Zoom.  Either way it will be another great Hometown Helena.
