Hometown Helena this Thursday, May 25th:

Fusion 4133 Robotics, Foundation for Montana History

May 23, 2023

Greetings Everyone,

The city sure looks nice, and smells good with all the lilacs, crab apple trees, May Day trees and other flora in full bloom. All you have to do is take a spin around town, or step on to your porch and take a deep breath. Enjoy it while you can.

The students of Helena continue to make the rest of us proud of them, proud of their parents and teachers, and proud to live in Helena. You’ll recall the CHS and HHS Robotics Team, Fusion 4133, came to Hometown in February, after they had won the state competition and before they headed to Houston for the national finals. I’m proud to report that the Helena robotics team took home 1st place in the design category of the Edison division. This was their very first win at this international competition. Team coach, Jamie Dushin, says he is very proud of his team and the work they’ve done, and that Helena can be proud too. “These guys went and represented Helena and Montana very well. So, everybody should be proud of the work they did,” says Dushin. The students from Fusion 4133 will join us again this week to tell us about the national competition in Houston and how they managed to take first place.

Students from Helena and Capital High Schools also did very well in Speech and Debate competition this year. In fact, seven (7) of them qualified for and will be going to the National tournament in Phoenix in June. The Team is raising funds to enable these students and their teachers to attend the National tournament. HHS Coach Jennifer Hermanson and CHS Coach Dubbz McClintic are very proud of these young people. They are leading the fundraising effort, which includes a Raffle. Donate at this link or just send or drop off a check:

All donations are divided fairly between Helena and Capital National Qualifiers.

**Please note that as the Helena School district has non-profit organization status, your donation is tax deductible.**

The adults in town have also been doing us proud. The Helena Farmer’s Market is celebrating its 50th year of operation. It seemed as though every living soul in town was at the Farmer’s Market last Saturday morning for the ribbon cutting. It was quite a party. Callie Aschim, Executive Director of the Helena Chamber of Commerce brought the big scissors for the ribbon cutting. The red-coated Helena Ambassadors were on hand to add a touch of class and color to the event.

This week, in addition to the Fusion 4133 Team, Zach Coe from the Foundation for Montana History will join us to discuss the Helena History Tours that will be taking place this summer. Along with the Last Chance Tour Train, these Helena History Tours are the perfect way to show off Helena to your friends and relatives who may be visiting our fair city this summer.

Hope to see you this Thursday, either in person or via the Zoom.
