Hometown Helena this Thursday, April 27th:

MAPS Media Institute, 406 Recycling

Hello Friends!

Jim Smith is enjoying a float on the Green River and so our own Emily McVey of the Hometown Helena team will be hosting this week.

Our main guest this week is MAPS Media Institute, a statewide program that teaches 8th-12th graders video production and editing skills free of charge. MAPS has been serving the Helena area since 2019, and their students have produced some truly amazing documentary short films. You may have heard that their film “No Ordinary Time” recently won a prize from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (better known as the organization that awards the Emmys). I’ve included a link to the documentary below. You won’t want to miss the presentation they have for us!

406 Recycling will also be presenting briefly on our upcoming electronics recycling event at Good Samaritan, which is being graciously supported this month by SoFi. As always, there will be room for announcements and introductions.

Some of you may be members of the Montana Club Cooperative. As I write this message, the board is having its annual meeting. Hometown Helena is grateful for this venue and I’m sure we all look forward to hearing updates as the volunteer board works to preserve this beautiful, historic venue we enjoy every Thursday morning.

The legislature will also be wrapping up this week. In Helena, we are grateful to be host to a citizen legislature that brings folks from all walks of life to our great Capital. Let's all wish them well as they work to complete a budget and finish the 2023 legislative season. Don’t forget to wish the staffers well, too. They’re liable to drop from exhaustion any minute.

See you Thursday!
