Greetings Everyone,
First, apologies to everyone who tried to Zoom in last week, and for the malfunction last week. One of our computers broke, near as we can tell. Just so you know, the technology we use (computer, TV screen, wires, hot spot, etc.) comes to us from 406 Recycling courtesy of Matt Elsaesser. It’s not new equipment. Matt has graciously donated everything we use at Hometown each week.
We’ll be back on track this week with new (used) equipment. Hopefully everyone will be able to zoom in again without any trouble.
We have a good Hometown arranged this week for you (see below). Our neighbors from Townsend and Broadwater county have plenty of good news to share with us this week. Brian Obert at the Montana Business Assistance Connection (MBAC) has talked to us about the emerging “Helena-Bozeman Corridor.” Townsend sits right in the middle of that corridor. Likewise Broadwater county sits right between Lewis and Clark and Gallatin counties. There’s lots going on 33 miles south of us. Helena is directly impacted in many positive ways by the growth and development in Townsend and Broadwater county. Looking forward to hearing more about it this week at Hometown Helena.
We won’t meet again before the 4th of July, so let me take this opportunity to invite you all to the Independence Day Celebration at Centennial Park, from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Since 2015 the Helena Chamber of Commerce and its red-coated Ambassadors have sponsored this special event. The highlight is raising a new 30x50' American flag (Old Glory) over the capital city. Patriotic music will begin at 10:30. There will be a 'bounce house’ for the children. A DNRC helicopter will deliver the flag to Centennial Park promptly at 11:45 am. Delegates from Boys and Girls State, young men and women who will be in Helena that week, will unfurl the flag and raise it up the pole by 12 noon. The Oro-Fino Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will then lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Old Glory String Quartet will lead us in singing the National Anthem. Immediately following the flag raising, the anthem and the pledge, there will be more music. Hot dogs and root beer floats will be served to one and all.
An event like this takes a lot of people working together. Here are the sponsoring organizations:
Helena Safeway-Albertsons for the hot dogs and root beer floats
The Helena Lions Club for cooking the hot dogs, and the use of their trailer
Valley Bank employees for the volunteers who will serve the hot dogs and root beer floats
St.Peter’s Health for the bottled water, sunscreen and Ambulance that will be parked nearby
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana
NorthWestern Energy
Boeing Helena, Inc.
Home Beautifiers
Mountain Health Co-op
Ashton-Thomas Wealth Management
Town Pump Foundation
Morrison-Maierle
Opportunity Bank
A special thanks to the Treacy Foundation, this year's July 4th Old Glory Flag sponsor
Another special thanks to Boy Scout Troop 214, the year round flag keepers
And another special thanks to the City Of Helena Parks and Recreation Department
As always, the ladies and gentlemen who work at City Parks will have Centennial Park looking beautiful for this celebration.
Finally, a very special deep and heartfelt ’Thanks’ to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We have enjoyed 247 years of freedom and independence, thanks in no small part to our nation’s veterans. We have enjoyed peace and prosperity at here home for my entire life. This nation’s soldiers and veterans have done much good throughout the world.
Hope to see you Thursday morning on the 6th floor of the Montana Club, or (with techno-luck) on the zoom.
Jim Smith
