Hey Y’All,
One of Helena’s greatest institutions is Carroll College. Carroll's impact on Helena and Montana is almost incalculable. At various times leaders from Carroll, including retired President John Cech, have told the Carroll story: how many graduates are still here, how many have returned to the town or the state as community leaders, how Carroll has helped the youth of Montana, how students from all over the country and the world have come to study here, and the vitality and enthusiasm they have injected into our own little gene pool in the capital city at the foot of the Continental Divide.
We’ve all heard of the ‘Fighting Saints.’ And we’ve heard of the ’Talking Saints.’ This week we will get another chance to see and hear from the ‘Acting Saints’ at Hometown Helena. Students from the Carroll drama department will entertain us as we begin our meeting with a preview of the fall play ‘Puffs.’ I gather this is an adult comedy, rated PG-13, and a little risqué, so be prepared.
Following the preview of ‘Puffs' we will get to meet and hear from Carroll’s Interim Co-President, Dr. Jennifer Glowienka. In June of this year, Dr. Glowienka was named as one of the interim Co-Presidents of Carroll College for the 2025-26 academic year.
The other Interim Co-President is Bishop of the Diocese of Helena and Chancellor of Carroll College, Austin A. Vetter. Bishop Vetter, a North Dakota farm boy from Linton, has been making a positive difference all over western Montana since being installed in 2019. He is, at heart, a humble leader-servant. He this vast area meeting with people of all ages, backgrounds and persuasions.
Dr. Glowienka has held a multitude of positions ever since she began at Carroll in 2003 as a professor of biology. In her other roles of Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, she oversees all matters pertaining to the academic programs and faculty of the college.
Carroll's profound sense of community and strong academic reputation are just two of the things that have kept her at Carroll for over 20 years.
Please join Hometown Helena this Thursday morning at Helena College, from 7-8 am. Or Zoom into the meeting, courtesy of Aja Rail and her co-workers at Pinion. You’ll be glad you did.
