It’s the first full day of Fall and the Autumnal Equinox just came and went once again. Twelve hours of day and twelve of night. Cool mornings and warm afternoons. It is nice living here in the Northern Hemisphere! With Fall come Fall activities. It’s going to be a busy weekend in Helena, with at least three events that will bring to town people from all over the state and from all over the country.
The Montana History Conference kicks off Thursday morning at the Best Western Great Northern Hotel. Entitled “A Place in Time,’ this will be a great gathering of Montanans from near and far. Included is a reception at the new, almost completed, Montana Heritage Center. My understanding is that the conference is already sold out!
Second, the 26th Annual Last Chance Community Pow Wow, ‘Honoring the Children’ will be at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds September 26-28. Admission is free. Everyone is welcome. The Grand Entry is Friday (9/27) at 6pm. Dancers and Drum Circles from all over Montana and the West will be on hand to compete for prizes and to display their special, amazing skills! For details, go to: lastchancepowwow.com. You can go right from the History Conference, which wraps up Saturday at 2pm, to the Last Chance Community Pow Wow at the Fairgrounds.
And, Carroll College is hosting its annual Homecoming and Family Weekend. Events begin with the Fighting Saints March up the Mall at 6pm Wednesday (9/24), and conclude with Mass on Sunday Morning (9am on 9/28) in All Saints Chapel. In between are receptions, welcomes for parents, tours of the campus, two performances of ‘Puffs’ at the Flex Theater, two Volleyball games featuring the Lady Saints versus Montana Tech and Western, the 4-Peat Celebration on Friday, and the Men’s Fighting Saints versus Rocky Mountain College on Saturday evening under the lights at the Valley Bank Nelson Stadium. For details and a complete schedule go to carroll.edu.
Meanwhile, we have another excellent Hometown Helena this Thursday morning. Mr. Jacob Kuntz, Executive Director of the Helena Area Habitat for Humanity will join us for an update and discussion this week. Please plan to attend. Helena Area Habitat is on a mission to solve the housing crisis in Helena (and Montana) by building safe, stable, and affordable homes for Montanans. Their innovative development in East Helena, Rose Hills, will create a vibrant, livable neighborhood with homes, parks, trails, green space, and a town center. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Helena Habitat’s work, including Rose Hills, a neighborhood designed for people to thrive.
C’mon down to Helena College Thursday morning, or join the discussion by Zooming into the meeting, courtesy of Aja Rail and her co-workers at Pinion. Looking forward to seeing you out and about this weekend and at Hometown Helena.
