Message from our host Jim Smith:

Greetings Everyone,

On this first day of Spring I’m starting to think the groundhog is one smart critter. At least that one back in Pennsylvania sure is! Punxsutawney Phil’s February 2nd prediction has proven to be accurate, especially here in Montana. However, I do think the weather is starting to break, and we may even have our tulips and daffodils by Memorial Day. No whiners. This is why we live here. And why we stay.

I’m guessing it will be warmer by Thursday morning, and that the roads and sidewalks will be cleared. So, we are hoping to see you in person, or on the Zoom, for another interesting Hometown Helena (see below). We will hear from the folks at the Good Samaritan and the United Way of the Lewis and Clark Area. Many good things are happening at both places. Please join us in person or via the Zoom to learn more about these helping organizations, the people they are serving and the people doing the work.

We received an email last week from a person who has been Zooming into Hometown Helena. He commented on the improved quality of the program last week. Matt and Haley have made some technical adjustments, including to the Owl so that it does not jerk around in response to every voice it hears. That makes for smoother viewing and a better hour for those Zooming into Hometown Helena. We’ll keep trying to improve the the experience for folks Zooming in each week.

Seems like we’re getting pretty official, with the new logo (many thanks Haley for the great logo), and the list of Hometown Helena’s partners: the Montana Club, Pinion Global, 406 Recycling. But not too official. We’re keeping the relaxed, informal atmosphere that has characterized Hometown all these years. We’re open to everyone and to all points of view each week.

We’re looking forward to seeing you this week, either in person or on the Zoom.

Jim Smith
