August 15, 2023 As always there is a lot going on in the Queen City of the Rockies. The Montana Historical Society is holding its Annual Conference—the 50th—in Helena at the end of September. The dates are September 28-30. The place is the Delta Colonial Inn. The theme this year is “Building on Our Past.’ This seems appropriate, given the new Montana Heritage Center currently under construction. Tours of the new museum will; be offered. In addition, there is a full line up of lectures, field trips, discussions, posters, receptions, and the annual banquet. Here’s the link, with the Agenda, all the registration materials, and much more information. In other news, the Board of Directors of the Montana Club has called a special meeting on August 22 at 6pm. If you are a member of the Montana Club Cooperative you have already received your invitation to this important meeting. As a member of the co-op, I am planning to attend this meeting. If nothing else, I will happily express the thanks and gratitude of Hometown Helena to the Montana Club—and to Mr. John Leaf— for allowing us to use the 6th floor these last three years, and long before that. I’ll offer to help out in any way I can. We can look forward to an update on August 24th. And school is about to start. Please be careful as you take to the busy streets of Helena, especially in the mornings this fall. The days are getting shorter and the mornings are darker. Keep your eyes open for children walking or riding bicycles to school. Take a little longer with your stops. Look up and down, as well as both ways at the intersections. This week, Helena College Dean/CEO Sandra Bauman, and Carroll College President John Cech will join us at Hometown Helena. We are so very fortunate to have these two fine institutions—and these two outstanding leaders—in Helena. There are great and exciting things going on at each college. Please plan to join Hometown Helena this Thursday morning, either via the zoom or in person on the 6th floor of the Montana Club.
