| Hometown Helena this Thursday, October 31: Montana Agriculture |
| October 29, 2024
Hey Y’all,
Here’s the deal for this week:
1) Regular Hometown Helena from 7-8 am at Helena College. 2) Breakfast at the Union Butcher Shop and Wood Fired Grill from 8:30-9:30 am. The Union Butcher Shop is at 361 N. Last Chance Gulch (corner of Lawrence and the Gulch, formerly Bert and Ernie’s).
We have a great program this week, all about Agriculture in Montana. Professor of Ag Economics at MSU-Bozeman, Eric Belasco is gong to Zoom in and provide us an overview of agricultural economics from the statewide perspective. Following, we’re all invited to the Union for breakfast! We’ll get a taste of what is being produced at the local level from the good folks at Old Salt Co-Op. We told the folks at the Union to expect about 20 people. Please c’mon down if you can.
So, this week we’ll be going from a very wide to a very local perspective on Montana’s number one industry.
Years ago—in October of 1993, shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union—I went to Russia as part of an informal Ag Exchange delegation, which was led by some people I had met during the Dorothy Bradley for Governor campaign. Needless to say, it was quite an eye opener for me. Following a lovely dinner in St. Petersburg one evening, our hosts brought out a beautiful cake, made with Montana wheat, complete with candles on it, and baked in the shape of Montana. That was my first realization that Montana agriculture was truly worldwide in its scope and reach.
I’m looking forward to hearing more about it all this Thursday morning and I hope you can join us for another great Hometown Helena. Please join us in person, or Zoom on in, courtesy of Aja Rail and the good folks at Pinion Global, Inc.
