June 10, 2025
Hey Y’all,
Some of Helena’s oldest and most venerable helping agencies are approaching their anniversaries. One of them is Rocky Mountain Development Council, which is celebrating 60 years of service to this community and the tri-county area in 2025.
Another is West Mont, which has been serving Helena since 1973. This week Laura Kneedler, President and CEO and Jessie Obrecht, Development Coordinator will join us at Hometown Helena. West Mont’s Mission Statement is as follows: Empowering people to succeed by promoting dignity, ability and independence. West Mont serves over 250 individuals with cognitive and intellectual disabilities with a variety of services, including work, habilitation and community participation.
And, if you are planning a trip to Glacier National Park this summer, you definitely want to come to Hometown Helena this week. Doug Mitchell, who many of you know, is the Director of the Glacier National Park Conservancy. Doug is coming down from the Flathead where he now lives to brief us on Glacier, and what will be going on there this summer. The GNP Conservancy is a strong advocate for the Park. Doug will discuss the reservation system for the Going to the Sun Road, and other parts of the Park, any big construction or maintenance projects scheduled, staffing and services that will be available for visitors this season. Like all other agencies, the National Park Service is facing budget challenges. It remains to be seen what the outcome of this years’ fiscal retrenchment will be. Doug will have and share with us the most recent information, and offer his insights as to what the outcome may be and what the future may hold for our beloved GNP.
Please plan to join Hometown Helena this Thursday morning at Helena College from 7-8am. Or, zoom into the meeting from wherever you may be, courtesy of Aja Rail and her colleagues at Pinion. Look forward to seeing you.
