Hometown Helena this Thursday, June 19th: Superintendent Rex Weltz

June 17, 2025

Hey Y’All,

As I’m sure you know, the Board of Trustees voted (unanimously) on June 10th to put the elementary and secondary school bond(s) before the District’s voters in September. The voters are us: the people of HelenaThis week our guest will be Helena Schools Superintendent Rex Weltz. Superintendent Weltz will explain the urgent need for these bonds this week at Hometown Helena. He will lay out the facts for us in his always-professional way.

An organizational meeting to form a committee to advocate for the passage of these two bonds was held June 11th. That effort is underway and is entitled ‘Yes, for Helena Kids!’ We will invite these good people to a future Hometown Helena to learn more.

The Helena Ambassadors and the Old Glory Landmark Committee would like to extend a cordial invitation to everyone in the community to attend the Independence Day Celebration at Centennial Park, from 11am to 2 pm on July 4th. Remember to bring a chair or a blanket. This will be the 14th consecutive year that the big Flag will be raised on July 4th, our nation’s Independence Day. There will be music by the Just in Case band, vendors from the Farmers Market, a bounce house for the kids, an Honor/Flag Song by the Magpie Drummers, the Pledge of Allegiance. The Flag will arrive via the DNRC (Department of Natural Resources and Conservation) helicopter. The Scouts of Troop 214 along with all the veterans and first responders present will unfurl and raise the Flag at 12 noon. Following this hot dogs and root beer floats will be served, provided by Safeway and Boar's Head Meats. Sunscreen and bottled water will also be available. It’s a free, family and community celebration for the people of Helena brought to by many, many sponsors and organizations, including those mentioned above. Also, Valley Bank, the Helena Lions Club, St. Peter’s Health. Hope to see you there.

And hope to see you this coming Thursday at Helena College for a most important discussion of the educational needs in Helena, and the bond(s) that will be before the people and on the ballot in September. Please come and hear from Superintendent Rex Weltz this week. Or Zoom into the meeting courtesy of Aja Rail and our partners at Pinion.
